Worth a Thousand Words

I am asked from time to time why I don't just give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt. My answer? He appoints people like Scott Pruitt, who made a career of suing the government over the EPA's efforts to regulate oil and gas companies, to head the EPA; he appoints people like Betsy DeVoss, who is an avowed enemy of the very concept of public education, to lead the Department of Education; he appoints people like Rick Perry (he who once forgot about the Dept. of Energy) to lead the Dept. of Energy.

Simply put, I have a hard time believing that this crew actually wants to do the things that the legislative branch has directed them to do (I will avoid the three branches of government/schoolhouse rock lecture here).

Here is a fine illustration:
Brenda Fitzgerald, the Georgia doctor who Trump appointed to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has resigned amid allegations of conflicts of interest.
The allegations came to light Tuesday evening when Politico reported that Fitzgerald had purchased shares in a tobacco company one month after taking her position at the agency — but also that she had a history of tobacco investments prior to taking her post at CDC.
The ridiculousness of this is obvious: Fitzgerald led a federal agency focused on driving down rates of smoking — the number one preventable cause of disease and death in the United States.
Is is possible to find a more apt analogy for the staffing of pretty much the entire Trump administration?

  3. First off, there is no MY network. I am not a one-network watcher (ahem, FOXNEWS conservatives, ahem . . . excuse me; something got caught in my proverbial throat). I try to get my news from a variety of sources, including most of the mainstream media; I try to avoid sources that provide little more than partisan agitprop.

Second, facts are not opinions. Charlie Kirk's column is an "opinion" column. That the president's CDC director was forced to resign her position due to her financial conflict of interest is a fact. That the president's CDC director is not the first agency head to be forced to resign or come under scrutiny for financial conflicts of interest under President Trump is a fact. That "Democrats response to Trump proves they aren't interested in improving American lives" is the opinion of one person, Charlie Kirk.

Along those lines, perhaps we would have a more-informed electorate if the news source of record for Conservative America (the aforementioned FoxNews) would give liberal viewpoints the same credence and credulity that all other networks give to BOTH sides.

Finally, the source matters. Do some research on Charlie Kirk. (https://www.tpusa.com/aboutus/charliekirk/) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turning_Point_USA#Finances). "Charlie Kirk is the Founder and Executive Director of Turning Point USA, a national student movement dedicated to identifying, organizing, and empowering young people to promote the principles of free markets, and limited government. . . . He is also a best-selling author, was the youngest speaker at the 2016 Republican National Convention, and a proud eagle scout." I could give more quotes about Turning Point USA's history, but I'm sure you get the point.

I am hardly surprised that a Republican partisan has good things to say about Donald Trump and bad things to say about those who oppose his policies. I am further unsurprised that NBC, the so-called "liberal media" is willing to publish his opinions.

Nothing about that link refutes the argument made in the original post.

  4. You are right , nothing in the link refutes your post ... I’m merely using the space to inform you that there are many people , myself included , that feel exactly the way the author of the opinion piece feels .
There are many people who are not left leaning liberals OR right wing conservatives! Personally , I get SO tired of the partisan crap of each party trying to destroy the other. Ewww Trump is a bad person , Ewww he’s corrupt , his cabinet is corrupt , ewww he’s a pussy grabber , eyeroll .... can we get back to the basics of accomplishing some goals and could the opposing political group that is not in power be it democrats or republicans for once respect each other and try to get some shit done ? I mean really ? This Russia crap ? I’m sick of it . Whoppie . So his son tried to find some dirt on Clinton .... who fucking cares . I voted for her and I don’t care ! There are all those computer hackers in Russia and what’s his fuck over there doesn’t like her . WHO CARES ? You know .... I didn’t vote for Barrack Obama the first time around and you didn’t see me bitching and moaning all during his terms . The country was going far too left , that’s why Trump won . I just wanted to see Hillary crush some nuts ... it would have been much more interesting than watching this circus with the crying democrats and the constant trashing of Trump . Yes he’s crass ,yes he’s an ass , yes I’d like him to not tweet . But you can’t argue with the fact he IS trying to get some of the things done he said he would , just like the opinion article states . The democrats just look like poopy pants sore loosers when they don’t applaud basic patriotic principles and guests during his speech . That’s my opinion ! And I hate to tell you liberal Joe ... there’s LOTS of people who feel the exact same ! They aren’t totally liberal and they aren’t totally conservative either . They are a healthy mix !
